Originally from New York, Martindale was expelled from Russia in 2019, but returned to Ukraine before the 2022 invasion, where he communicated information about Ukrainian military targets. The pro-Russian leader of Donetsk, Denis Pushilin, handed him his passport, emphasizing his contribution to the planning of Russian military operations.
