UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has denounced the famine in Gaza as a "failure of humanity", calling for an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages. The UN humanitarian chief accused Israel of obstructing aid, saying the famine could have been avoided. The Israeli foreign ministry has rejected the accusations, denying the famine. Over 500,000 people are facing catastrophic conditions and the number could rise to 641,000 by the end of September.
