Andrius Kubilius, European Commissioner for Defense, stated that Ukrainian soldiers could be mobilized to support the defense of the European Union against Russia, but this would only be possible after a peace agreement between Kiev and Moscow is reached. He emphasized the importance of the Ukrainian army, considered the most experienced in Europe, for the security of the region, especially in the context of Russian threats. Although this idea is attractive, the current reality is marked by the advances of the Russian army in eastern Ukraine, and Russian leader Vladimir Putin shows no signs of compromise. Kubilius mentioned that the deployment of Ukrainian soldiers would not affect the presence of German and American troops in the region and emphasized the need for additional security guarantees, especially in the face of possible Russian attacks on the Baltic states. He warned that Russia could test NATO's defense in the coming years, which could pose a threat to the entire European Union.
