At a recent meeting, the EU climate commissioner confirmed plans to set an emissions reduction target of 90% below 1990, but with certain flexibilities to support local industries. These flexibilities would allow countries to buy international pollution credits and adjust reduction targets. While some member countries, such as Finland and Denmark, support this target, others, such as Italy and the Czech Republic, oppose it. The European commission continues to reaffirm its commitment to climate targets, despite criticism.
