The law adopted on 22 July sparked outrage and protests in Ukraine after it placed the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office under the authority of the prosecutor general, appointed by the president. Following criticism from civil society and the European Union, President Zelenski has proposed a new draft law to restore the independence of these agencies, which will be put to a vote in parliament. Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiha stressed the need for adjustments to protect anti-corruption agencies from political influence.
