Turkish police on Friday made 44 arrests in a corruption investigation targeting Istanbul's opposition mayor Ekrem Imamoglu (pictured). Those arrested include his secretary and the chairmen of two municipal companies. This follows arrests the previous week when 20 municipal employees were detained. Imamoglu, considered a major political opponent of President Erdogan, has been in detention since March and the annulment of his university degree makes it difficult for him to run in the 2028 elections.
