In a recent decision, Turkey has suspended the Crude Oil Pipeline Agreement with Iraq, in force since the 1970s, effective July 27, 2026. This comes after Turkey halted deliveries in March 2023, due to an international ruling that forced it to pay Iraq $1.5 billion in compensation. Although Ankara has expressed its intention to resume operations, negotiations have been complicated by financial disagreements. Turkish officials stress the strategic importance of the pipeline for the region and the "Development Road" project.
