Donald Trump was forced to retract partially his comments regarding NATO troops in Afghanistan, after being harshly criticized, especially by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump praised British soldiers, calling them "great and very brave" and stating that the British army is "unmatched, except for the USA."

The criticisms were fueled by his previous statements, in which he claimed that European troops had stayed "away from the front line" and that NATO would not support the United States in the event of a crisis. These comments sparked outrage in Great Britain, where the sacrifices made by NATO soldiers in Afghanistan were highlighted. Trump was also criticized for his lack of military experience, considering that he avoided the draft during the Vietnam War.
