The President of the United States, Donald Trump, took advantage of the stage at the World Economic Forum in Davos to inaugurate the "Peace Council", a diplomatic initiative intended to serve as a pragmatic alternative to traditional international institutions. Although the White House sent invitations to 60 nations, the launch was marked by the refusal of some Western chancelleries to join the effort.

The new structure is promoted by the Trump Administration as a platform for direct, rapid negotiation and "free of bureaucracy", with the primary goal of mediating active conflicts in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Romania is among the states that responded positively to the call, with the delegation from Bucharest present at the inaugural discussions, a gesture that reaffirms strategic alignment with Washington's policies.

However, the unity displayed in Davos is partial. Diplomatic sources confirm that several member states of the European Union, along with Asian powers, declined the invitation or sent lower-ranking representatives. Their reluctance stems from the fear that the new Council could undermine the authority of the UN and NATO. In response to these absences, Donald Trump briefly stated before the opening session: "We invited everyone who matters and who wants solutions. Those who are not here have chosen the past."
