The administration of President Donald Trump dismissed the entire National Science Board, made up of over 20 members, announcing this on Monday through two dismissed members.
The board, established in 1950, was responsible for guiding the National Science Foundation and advising the president and Congress on science and engineering issues. Board members were informed on Friday that they would be dismissed immediately, without being given reasons. Most members were academics, and this action is seen as part of a broader strategy to replace independent voices with loyalists in government institutions.
