American President Donald Trump has approved a nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia, which would allow the kingdom to develop its own uranium enrichment capabilities within its civil nuclear program.
The agreement, which could be officially announced soon, would last approximately 30 years and involve the participation of American companies in the development of Saudi nuclear infrastructure. However, the agreement will need to be reviewed by the U.S. Congress, where it may face opposition due to nuclear proliferation risks. Critics warn that granting this capability to Saudi Arabia could encourage other states in the region to also develop similar nuclear programs.
Additionally, the agreement will not include the IAEA Additional Protocol, raising concerns about the international monitoring of Saudi nuclear activities.
