American President Donald Trump accused the authorities in Honduras on Monday of trying to influence the outcome of the presidential elections, in the context where the candidate he supports, Nasry Asfura, is tied with Salvador Nasralla, another right-wing candidate. Trump stated on his Truth Social network that Honduras could change the election results, threatening that they would pay a high price if this were to happen. He claimed that the Electoral Commission prematurely stopped counting the votes, and both candidates had just under 40% of the votes in a tight race, affected by technical issues with the results display website. Trump supports Asfura, the conservative candidate of the National Party, to the detriment of Nasralla, the main candidate of the Liberal Party.
