A serious bus accident occurred in the mountainous region of Arequipa in southern Peru, where at least 37 people died and dozens were injured. Local authorities reported that 36 of the victims died at the scene, while another person later died in the hospital. Among the injured are an eight-month-old baby and two other children. The accident happened on the highway between the town of Chala and Arequipa, when the bus, operated by the Llamosas company, collided with a van and was thrown into a ravine about 200 meters deep. Photos from the scene show the overturned bus surrounded by debris and personal belongings. Authorities in Arequipa stated that 26 people were treated for injuries, three of whom are in serious condition. This incident is one of the worst bus accidents in Peru and Latin America in recent years.
