The German army was the victim of a significant theft when a shipment of ammunition was stolen from an unmonitored parking lot near Magdeburg. The incident occurred on the night from Monday to Tuesday when the driver, an employee of a civilian transport company, decided to stay at a hotel, leaving the truck unattended. Approximately 20,000 cartridges, including combat cartridges and maneuver cartridges, were stolen.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized the seriousness of the incident, stating that the ammunition must not fall into the wrong hands. It is being investigated whether the theft was planned, considering that the transport was being monitored. The transport company is accused of violating security requirements, as the rules stipulated the presence of two drivers to ensure the supervision of the cargo.
