In an exclusive interview for Fox News, American Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the United States will not tolerate espionage activities or military bases of adversaries just 90 miles from American shores.
The historical relations of Cuba with rival powers, such as Russia and China, were mentioned, especially the ties dating back to the Cold War period. Rubio criticized the current leadership of Cuba, stating that economic reforms cannot be achieved with the current leaders, whom he labeled as incompetent. His statements coincided with the rejection by the U.S. Senate of a Democratic proposal to limit the military actions of the Trump administration against Cuba.
Since the beginning of the year, the Trump administration has intensified pressure on Cuba, imposing an oil blockade and suggesting the need for a regime change on the island.
