The United States intends to approve a one-year extension of the Blue Helmets' mandate in southern Lebanon, despite Israel's opposition.

American envoy Tom Barrack stated that the U.S. will support the one-year extension of the mandate for approximately 10,800 Blue Helmets, who have acted as a buffer between Israel and Lebanon since 1978. Although France and Lebanon support this measure, Israel and the U.S. oppose it. Negotiations within the UN Security Council are ongoing, and a draft text proposes extending UNIFIL's presence until August 31, 2026, in order to ensure the security of southern Lebanon by the Lebanese government.
