The United States announces enhanced measures to prevent the spread of Ebola hemorrhagic fever, including health checks for air travelers from affected areas. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have stated that they will restrict entry for foreign nationals who have traveled in the last 21 days to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan.
These measures come after the World Health Organization declared the epidemic in the DRC a public health emergency of international concern. Although the CDC considers the immediate risk to the American population to be low, the agency continues to monitor the situation and adapt based on available information. Additionally, the U.S. Embassy in Kampala has temporarily suspended all visa services for applicants from the affected regions.
