Andrius Kubilius, European Commissioner for Defense, stated that the United States can no longer send weapons to Ukraine, as they have significantly depleted their stocks in the conflict with Iran. He estimates that the American defense industry will need 3-4 years to replenish its reserves, which requires the European Union to ramp up its arms production to support Ukraine. So far, the EU has purchased about 40% of its weapons from the US, including essential systems like the Patriot batteries. Kubilius emphasized Europe's dependence on American services and highlighted that Russia outpaces the EU in arms production, with 1,200 cruise missiles and 1,000 ballistic missiles produced last year, compared to zero ballistic missiles from EU states. In the context of NATO, he believes that the US will continue to lead the Alliance, although unpredictability is the norm. Kubilius mentioned a loan of 90 billion euros provided to Ukraine by the EU, of which 60 billion will be allocated for defense.
