The House of Representatives is set to vote on Wednesday on a bill called the Stop Insider Trading Act, which would prohibit members of Congress from buying individual stocks during their term, but allows them to keep existing investments.
The bill, supported by Republicans, increases penalties for failing to report stock transactions. Republican Bryan Steil, the measure's sponsor, states that the goal is to eliminate suspicions related to the use of information obtained in office.
Criticism from Democrats highlights that the prohibitions are insufficient.
Meanwhile, the Senate is reviewing the Clarity Act, which prohibits the president, vice president, and other federal officials from issuing or promoting cryptocurrencies. This measure aims to prevent conflicts of interest among U.S. officials and regulate the crypto sector.
