Claudio Neves-Valente, a 48-year-old Portuguese student, has been identified as the suspect in the shooting attack at Brown University, which resulted in the deaths of two people and injured several others. Authorities announced that Neves-Valente committed suicide in a storage unit in New Hampshire, where two firearms were also found. He is also suspected of killing a physicist at MIT in Boston. The attack at Brown took place in a university building during exams, when the suspect opened fire, killing Ella Cook and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov. One survivor is in critical condition, while others have been discharged. The investigation has been complicated but has progressed rapidly after authorities established links between the two incidents. The university has been criticized for the lack of connection between security cameras and the police surveillance system. This year, over 300 mass shootings have occurred in the U.S., and restrictions on access to firearms continue to be a controversial topic.
