The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought for the year 2025 has been awarded to journalists Andrzej Poczobut from Belarus and Mzia Amaghlobeli from Georgia, who are currently in prison for their journalistic activities. The announcement was made by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, who emphasized that they are imprisoned only because they fulfilled their duty to denounce injustice.

Metsola highlighted the courage of these journalists, who, even from behind bars, represent a strong symbol of freedom and democracy. This distinction underscores the importance of freedom of expression and the protection of journalists against repression.
