Aleksandr Lunin, a Russian soldier, was detained after posting a video on social media, in which he threatened a revolt if he did not meet personally with President Vladimir Putin. In his message from June 25, Lunin requested a meeting with Putin to convey "the whole truth" about the situation in Russia and about the armed forces involved in the conflict in Ukraine.

After his release, the soldier confirmed that he is "safe and unharmed," but did not comment on the deletion of the video, which garnered nearly 11 million views in the first 24 hours. Lunin stated that he was contacted by officials from the Ministry of Defense, who suggested he convey the president's message. He warned that if he is not received at the Kremlin, "the consequences will be very serious" and that the army could turn its weapons against the Kremlin. The Kremlin's spokesperson, Dmitri Peskov, previously commented on the "rather strange formulations" in the soldier's message.
