The Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, stated that the close relations with the United States, once a strong point, have become a weakness, in a video message addressed to the nation.
Mark Carney praised the heroism of military leaders, such as General Isaac Brock, who defended Canadian territory in the War of 1812. He emphasized that Canada cannot control the disruptions coming from its American neighbors and cannot bet its future on the hope that they will stop.
Carney recently obtained a parliamentary majority, which will allow him to manage the trade war with the U.S. more effectively. Criticisms from American officials, including about Canada being a difficult trading partner, highlight the challenges the country is facing. Carney promised to periodically inform citizens about the government's measures to stimulate the economy and defend Canada's sovereignty.
