The Parliament of Kosovo has rejected the confirmation of Albin Kurti as Prime Minister, complicating the political situation and increasing the likelihood of calling early elections. Kurti, the leader of the Vetevendosje (LVV) party, received only 56 votes in the 120-member parliament, five votes short of what was needed. The opposition, made up of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), voted against him, criticizing his management of relations with Western allies and actions in northern Kosovo, where the Serbian minority resides. Although LVV won 48 seats in the February elections, it did not achieve an absolute majority. The opposition bloc, with 52 seats, cannot form a majority, and the political deadlock has been exacerbated by difficulties in electing the President of the Parliament. Kurti came to power in 2021, but now faces an uncertain situation, in the context of Kosovo declaring independence from Serbia in 2008.
