On Wednesday evening, the French Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin, paid a visit to former President Nicolas Sarkozy, incarcerated at the Santé prison in Paris. The meeting, which took place in the presence of the prison director, lasted approximately 45 minutes. Sarkozy, sentenced to five years in prison for collusion with criminals in the Libyan case, was incarcerated on October 21, marking the first time in French history that a former president has been imprisoned. He has submitted a request for release, which will be examined by the judiciary in the coming weeks.
Additionally, Sarkozy is under the protection of two security officers, an exceptional measure due to his status and the threats received. Darmanin stated that his visit aimed to ensure that the former president enjoys adequate security conditions.
