The Kremlin cancels the 'Immortal Regiment' march for security reasons

The Kremlin announced on Thursday the cancellation of the traditional 'Immortal Regiment' march, which takes place on May 9, during which Russians carry portraits of their fallen relatives from World War II.

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the march will have an electronic format for security reasons, accusing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of intending to attack Moscow with drones. The absence of military equipment at the parade in Red Square, for the first time since 2007, is explained by the 'Ukrainian terrorist threat.' Russia announced a unilateral ceasefire of 48 hours to mark the anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany, but Zelensky's proposal for a truce was ignored.

The Russian opposition in exile suggests that the cancellation of the march is due to fears that the large number of Russian soldiers killed in the war in Ukraine could affect the morale of society.
