The European Union is preparing to impose a significant fine on Google as part of an antitrust investigation, according to the German publication Handelsblatt, which cites sources from the European Commission.

This decision, nearly finalized, could be officially announced before the summer vacation of the European institutions. It is estimated that the fine will be one of the largest ever imposed for violating European legislation on digital markets, known as the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The investigation, launched in March 2025, examines suspicions that Google favors its own services in search results and checks compliance with digital competition rules. The European Commission has also extended the deadline for Google to respond to the authorities' concerns after the initial proposal was deemed insufficient.
