EU ambassadors approved a loan of 90 billion euros for Ukraine, intended for military aid and budget support

The ambassadors of the European Union countries have agreed on the details of a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine, aimed at supporting Kiev's financial needs in the period 2026-2027, in the context of the ongoing fight against the Russian invasion.

Approximately two-thirds of the funds will be allocated to military aid, while one-third will be for budget support. Ukraine will be able to use the loan to purchase weapons from the EU or other countries, with certain conditions. The agreement requires approval from the European Parliament, and the first payment could be made in April. Without this loan, Ukraine risks remaining without liquidity, affecting its war efforts. There are also discussions about the conditions for spending the funds, with France wanting to prioritize EU defense companies, while other countries are asking for more flexibility for Ukraine. Although the loan will support Ukrainian efforts, it will not cover all estimated financial needs of 135 billion euros for this year.
