The European Union has removed the "chat control" measure from its regulations, which would have allowed the scanning of private conversations to detect abuse against minors.

Denmark, which holds the rotating presidency of the EU, has decided to remove this measure from a regulation project against online pedophilia, following opposition from several member states. Criticized by the European Parliament and Germany, "chat control" was considered a violation of privacy, with its supporters arguing that algorithms would only be used to detect child pornography. Critics warned that such a measure could lead to mass surveillance of citizens, contradicting EU legislation on data protection.
