The President of the United States, Donald Trump, made an official visit to Michigan on Tuesday, the epicenter of the American auto industry, where he attended the Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) and visited the Ford plant in Dearborn. The leader from the White House used the platform to announce new protectionist measures and to celebrate what he calls the "saving of the internal combustion engine."

In a speech delivered at the Detroit Economic Club, held at MotorCity Casino, Donald Trump confirmed the extension of tariffs on imports of foreign auto parts until 2030. The measure is presented by the Administration as a guarantee for the security of jobs in domestic production, despite warnings from economists about rising costs for consumers.

"We have very low inflation and huge growth. If we didn't have the tariffs, the factories wouldn't have opened here," the president stated, dismissing concerns about prices as a "political farce."
