Studies show an increase in cases, with 4,000 infections in Europe between 2013-2023, and the United Kingdom recently reported a 23% increase. This fungus can be deadly for patients with weakened immune systems and is resistant to most medications. The difficulty in eliminating it is due to its ability to form biofilms and adhere to surfaces. Hospitals that respond quickly can control the spread, but after a critical window, the problem becomes chronic.
