The Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz is being tried for leaking confidential information, a case that complicates the situation of the socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, already affected by judicial scandals. García Ortiz is accused of having transmitted to the press an email related to an investigation targeting the partner of the President of the Madrid region, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. The Prime Minister, who appointed García Ortiz to the position, is facing a series of scandals that affect his government. The case began in 2024, when justice investigated a businessman suspected of tax fraud. The leak of information raised suspicions about his innocence, and García Ortiz was accused of orchestrating this leak to damage Ayuso's image. In his defense, the Attorney General claims that he is the victim of an orchestrated campaign to distract attention from the fraud. If found guilty, he will have to resign, which would represent a major political setback for Sánchez. The trial continues with testimonies from several witnesses, including journalists.
