In Paris, one of the most complex criminal trials in France has begun, called the Athanor trial, in which 22 people are being tried for murder, attempted murder, and leading a network of paid assassins. The case was triggered on July 24, 2020, when the police were alerted by a resident of Créteil about two suspicious men. They, Pierre Bourdin and Carl Esnault, soldiers of the DGSE, were found with a weapon and false license plates, claiming to operate in the name of the French state to eliminate a Mossad agent.
In reality, the plan was orchestrated by Marie-Hélène Dini, a business coach and leader of a Masonic lodge, who wanted to eliminate a business rival. Jean-Luc Bagur, 'Worshipful Master' of the Athanor lodge, is considered the head of the criminal organization. The lodge, made up of intelligence officers and businessmen, became the intermediary of a network of assassins. The accusation claims that orders were transmitted through Frédéric Vaglio to Daniel Beaulieu, a retired officer, and the execution was coordinated by Sébastien Leroy. Beaulieu attempted to commit suicide upon arrest, and his health condition has become problematic for participating in the trial.
