After the reporting of the death of 23 Venezuelan soldiers and 32 Cuban soldiers following the attack by American forces on Maduro's network, Colombian President Gustavo Petro discussed drug-related issues and other misunderstandings with Donald Trump. Trump warned that Petro should be careful, describing him as a "sick man" who produces and sells cocaine. In response, Petro threatened that Colombia would "take up arms" if the U.S. launched military actions against his country. Petro also emphasized that he has been fighting against drug trafficking for decades, contrary to accusations that he allows cartels to thrive. In this context, the U.S. imposed sanctions on Petro, accusing him of failing to combat drug trafficking. Venezuela, for its part, condemned the U.S. actions, considering them a stain on bilateral relations. Delcy Rodríguez, the interim president of Venezuela, stated that the country is open to energy relations beneficial for all parties involved.
