Mexico has begun to strengthen its defense following the military escalation of the USA against Venezuela, especially after the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. Although there were months of diplomatic maneuvers, the relationship between Mexico and the USA has entered a new phase, with threats from Donald Trump regarding possible interventions against Mexico. President Claudia Sheinbaum has tried to reduce tensions, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and respect for international law. Despite an agreement with the USA for intercepting drug boats, the attacks have continued. The capture of Maduro has amplified the USA's interest in Venezuelan oil, and Mexico has requested UN mediation to prevent bloodshed. In this context, tensions between Mexico and the USA are rising, and the threats of military intervention are becoming more palpable, especially after the designation of Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations. The Sheinbaum administration has responded by increasing arrests and drug seizures, but bilateral relations remain fragile.
