Switzerland is preparing to hold a referendum on March 8 to include the use of cash in the Constitution, following support of about 60% from voters, according to polls. Although the use of cash has decreased in the last decade, the Swiss continue to value physical money.


In the referendum, citizens will vote between a proposal from activists for the use of cash and a government alternative, both aimed at protecting cash. Additionally, voters will decide on the elimination of a tax provision that disadvantages couples with similar incomes, known as the "wedding penalty," which affects approximately 670,000 couples. There will also be a vote on a proposal to reduce taxes for public radio and to increase spending to combat climate change, both of which have a high chance of being rejected.
