Switzerland has decided to give up part of the 36 F-35 fighter jets contracted from the USA, due to significant additional costs presented by the American authorities. The Swiss government announced that, for financial reasons, it cannot maintain the initial number of aircraft, considering that the budget approved by referendum is 6 billion francs (approximately 6.4 billion euros).
Although the Swiss voted with a small majority for this budget, the government was informed that the USA cites additional costs between 650 million and 1.3 billion francs, due to inflation and other factors. Following discussions with the United States, Switzerland concluded that it cannot impose the initially agreed fixed price for the F-35A aircraft.
