Sweden invests 916 million dollars in air defense and anti-drone systems

Sweden will invest 8.7 billion Swedish crowns (approximately 916 million dollars) in air defense and anti-drone systems, according to an announcement made on Thursday by the Ministry of Defense.

Minister Pal Jonson emphasized the importance of these investments, mentioning that protection against aerial threats is a top priority for the Swedish government. The procurement package will include the anti-drone system Gute II, which consists of a radar system and cannon, intended to protect military units and critical infrastructures, such as power plants and railway hubs. The funds will also be used for the purchase of ammunition and vehicles, including infantry mobility vehicles from the Finnish company Sisu.

Deliveries are scheduled for the years 2027 and 2028. Sweden, like other European states, is strengthening its defense following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with military spending estimated at 2.8% of GDP in 2026 and 3.5% in 2030.
