Five French citizens, including one with symptoms similar to the disease, have been repatriated and placed in quarantine after being evacuated from the cruise ship MV Hondius.
The French Prime Minister confirmed that one of the French citizens has been tested for hantavirus, and the result will be announced soon. Authorities from several countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States, have organized evacuation flights, each implementing their own health regulations. The Director of WHO emphasized the importance of active monitoring and quarantine, mentioning that symptoms do not necessarily indicate a hantavirus infection.
The outbreak on the ship is linked to the Andes strain of the virus, which can be transmitted from person to person. Eight passengers have recently fallen ill, and three have died. The body of one of the deceased will remain on board until the completion of the journey.
