A series of attacks took place today on Iranian territory, targeting essential strategic points for the country's economy. The most severe occurred on Kharg Island, where strong explosions were reported, according to the Israeli publication Ynet, which cites a semi-official Iranian agency. Additionally, a railway or road bridge near the city of Qom is said to have been the target of an attack. Although the authorities in Tehran have not provided official details about the causes or extent of the damage, these incidents occur in an extremely fragile regional context. Kharg Island is vital for Iran's economy, as over 90% of the country's oil exports pass through its terminals. The destruction of infrastructure on the island would paralyze Iran's ability to generate foreign currency, and repairs could take years. As a major player in OPEC, any threat to the supply from Kharg could trigger an immediate increase in oil prices on global markets. The island is protected by the air defense systems of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), and a successful attack would highlight a major vulnerability in Iranian security.
