Stock markets recorded significant declines following President Donald Trump's threats to impose additional tariffs on the United Kingdom and seven other European countries until the United States obtains permission to annex Greenland. The FTSE 100 index fell by 0.4%, while the FTSE 250 dropped by 0.7%, while European stocks were hit even harder, with the Cac 40 in Paris decreasing by 1.7% and the Dax in Frankfurt by 1.4%.

These declines were preceded by a similar trend in Asian markets, with Japan's Nikkei falling by 0.7% and the MSCI index of Asia-Pacific stocks, excluding Japan, decreasing by 0.4%. Trump announced that he will impose a 10% import tax starting February 1, which will increase to 25% on June 1 if no agreement is reached.
