The library hosted an exhibition of rare books and works from the 1940s and 1950s. Thieves immobilized a guard and an elderly couple before stealing the works, which they placed in a canvas bag and fled. Authorities identified the thieves through surveillance cameras and are searching for them. The exhibition, titled "From Book to Museum," ended on Sunday, and the stolen engravings include collages from Matisse's "Jazz" album, which are extremely rare. Art critic Tadeu Chiarelli emphasized the invaluable value of these works. Additionally, the five engravings by Portinari were illustrations from the 1959 book "Menino de Engenho."
