Spain estimates that it will exceed 100 million foreign tourists this year, a new record for the tourism sector.
According to the Minister of Tourism, Jordi Hereu, this growth is supported by a strong summer season and the redirection of a portion of tourist flows from the Middle East to Mediterranean destinations.
Authorities estimate that between June and September the country will receive approximately 43 million international visitors, and the revenue generated by tourism will reach 64 billion euros. Meanwhile, the Government is trying to encourage tourists to visit the interior areas of the country to reduce pressure on coastal destinations affected by overcrowding.
