Two people have died and dozens more have been injured after an Air Canada Express plane, coming from Montreal, collided with a ground vehicle during landing. The two deceased individuals have been confirmed as the pilot and co-pilot of the aircraft.
UPDATE A total of 41 people were injured in the accident and were taken to the hospital, but 32 have already been discharged, according to the New York airport authority.
The CRJ-900 aircraft, operated by Jazz Aviation, struck the vehicle at a speed of approximately 39 km/h. The Fire Department responded quickly to the scene, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) imposed a takeoff ban for all aircraft at the airport, estimating that the emergency situation could last until 6:00 PM GMT. Unconfirmed images on social media suggest serious damage to the nose of the plane.
The airport authorities had previously warned of possible flight disruptions due to unfavorable weather conditions, including light rain and fog.
