Mark Rutte stresses need for NATO to become more involved in regional security, given threats from China and North Korea

In an interview, Mark Rutte highlighted the rapid expansion of China's armed forces and underlined US pressure on NATO members to increase defense spending. Rutte said that NATO must actively engage in the Asia-Pacific region, not only in the context of Article 5, but also to bolster the strength of the alliance. He also mentioned strengthening military cooperation between Japan and European countries, including a new security partnership with the European Union.
