The quake occurred in the Bering Sea, about 90 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, but caused no major damage. It was followed by the eruption of Shiveluch volcano, one of the largest volcanoes in Kamchatka. No injuries were reported and the authorities have not issued a tsunami alert.
