After the blocking of the Telegram application in Russia, KakaoTalk, a South Korean messaging app, has rapidly gained popularity, climbing to second place in the ranking of social networking applications in the Russian App Store. Interest in KakaoTalk has significantly increased, with nearly 10,000 downloads on RuStore and entering the top 500 free applications in Russia.
The application, launched in 2010, offers standard features such as text messaging, image sending, group chats, and voice and video calls. Although the interface has been translated into Russian, some elements remain in English. In the context of the digital restrictions imposed by the Kremlin and Western companies, KakaoTalk is becoming a viable solution for Russian users seeking communication alternatives.
