The International Gymnastics Federation has decided to lift the sanctions imposed on Russian athletes due to the war in Ukraine, allowing them to compete under the Russian flag and with the national anthem. The announcement was made by the Russian Gymnastics Federation, stating that the decision was made on Sunday in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

This applies to the five affiliated disciplines, including artistic and rhythmic gymnastics. The president of the Russian federation, Oleg Belozerov, welcomed the decision, emphasizing the importance of unity in the global gymnastics community. Russian athletes will compete for the first time under the national flag at the World Cup stages in Bulgaria and Azerbaijan in June. This return to competition comes after the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee not to allow Russian athletes to compete with neutral status.
