Russian Ambassador Ghennadi Gatilov warned, during the Disarmament Conference in Geneva, that the resumption of nuclear tests by the United States could generate a dangerous 'domino effect', emphasizing that the responsibility for the consequences would fall entirely on Washington.
His comments came after American officials, including Christopher Yeaw, confirmed President Trump's intention to resume nuclear tests, citing the need to respond to the actions of China and Russia. Yeaw accused China of secret nuclear tests and mentioned an underground test conducted in 2020.
Gatilov emphasized that the U.S. position complicates the situation of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which has not entered into force, with France and the United Kingdom being the only nuclear states that have ratified it.
