The company Roszarubezhneft, controlled by the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, has stated that all its assets in Venezuela are the property of the Russian state and that it will respect its contractual commitments to international partners. Established in 2020, Roszarubezhneft took over the Venezuelan assets of Rosneft after the United States imposed sanctions on its subsidiaries. The assets are held in accordance with Venezuelan legislation and bilateral agreements.

In the context of international tensions, Donald Trump suggested the possibility of the U.S. taking control of Venezuela's oil reserves, while Russia maintains its close relations with Caracas, including through energy and military cooperation. Recently, the Venezuelan parliament approved the extension of partnerships with Roszarubezhneft, thus strengthening Russia's position in the energy sector in Venezuela.
